Cricket World Cup Statistics

Cricket being one of the most popular sports in the world draws a huge amount of viewership from all around the world. Currently there are ten test playing countries under the supervision of the International Cricket Council. The test playing nations comprise Australia, England, New Zealand, South Africa, West Indies, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. All these ten teams automatically qualify to the finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup held in every four years’ gap. Other associate members of the ICC need to go through a tough competition at the preliminary stages. So far there has been nine editions of the ICC World Cup. According to the Cricket World Cup statistics, Australia, with 4 World Cup titles under there belt, has been the dominating participant. The stupendous feat of the Australian international Cricket team includes three consecutive World Cup wins from 1999 to 2007. They also won the prestigious title in 1987 when they defeated England in the final held at the famous Eden Gardens in Kolkata. If you take a long hard look at the Cricket World Cup statistics, you will be able to understand why the Australian team scores over the rest of the teams in the world.

If Australia is the undisputed leader among the Cricket playing countries, the West Indian international Cricket team does not lag far behind either. Despite their lackluster performance in recent years, Cricket World Cup statistics show that they were the first team to win two World Cups back to back. After scaling a dizzy height of glory in the inaugural year of the World Cup of Cricket in 1975, they also emerged victorious in the following edition in 1979. India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are the other teams to have won the World Cup once each.

Cricket World Cup statistics show that nineteen countries have been able to make to the finals of the World Cup at least once. Seven among them have never missed out on any World Cup and five teams have won the championship title. Australia is the only nation to have played in six of the nine final matches. It is truly an incredible record which is hard to match by any other country at least in near future. The current status of other countries does not pose too much of a threat to the Australian dominance. Another astounding fact coming out of the Cricket World Cup statistics is related to the English Cricket team. England has made it to the final of the World Cup three times, but they are yet to win the tournament. They have lost the final to three different opponents in 1979, 1987 and 1992. The best show by a non-test playing country so far was put up by Kenya in the 2003 Cricket World Cup.

Sri Lanka has a special distinction in their repertoire. They are the only host nation to have won the World Cup.
